Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. Amazon has announced that it will be hiring 6,500 seasonal workers in the North Texas area. The online retail giant will be offering signing bonuses of up to $3,000 in select locations with an average pay of $19 per hour. In total, Amazon is hoping to hire 150,000 employees during its latest hiring initiative in the United States. (dallasinnovates.com)
  2. The Dallas Independent School District reports 2,659 dropouts during the 2021-2022 school year. The district saw an increase in its dropout rate compared to the 2022-2021 school year. That trend is being experienced throughout the North Texas area. The increase is being attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic's disruption of education. (Axios.com)
  3. The Press Club of Dallas will be recognizing 11 journalists for life achievement next week. The award is through its Legends of North Texas Journalism program. The inductees will be honored through an awards ceremony at the Texas Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 13. Click the following link for the full list of inductees. (Subscription: Dallas Morning News)

Patch deal of the day:

Wine lover alert. We found this amazing deal from Splash Wines — an 18-bottle curated selection of reds and whites for fall — for just $69.99. Shipping isn't cheap at $39.95, but that still comes out to just over $6 per bottle. Splash Wines has a money-back guarantee if you don't like the wine and 4.6 out of 5 rating on TrustPilot. So: recommended.
