Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- A Dallas man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for various drug violations. Jose Antonio Carreto, 31 years old, was convicted of distributing heroin that resulted in a 2019 overdose. The victim survived the overdose thanks to Narcan which was administered by first responders during the incident. (Gilmer Mirror)
- The Dallas International Film Festival begins today, Oct. 14. The popular festival will be running through Thursday, Oct. 20. - The Dallas Independent School District reports that an elementary student brought a gun to campus on Thursday morning. The gun was discharged inside John W Carpenter Elementary School before the start of classes. The clear backpack policy at the district did not apply to Carpenter Elementary. The clear backpacks will be offered to families at the school starting next week. (WFAA.com)
