1. Motorcyclist killed in multi-vehicle crash on LBJ Express Lane (fox4news.com) — A 24-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a fiery multi-vehicle crash on the LBJ Express Lane in Dallas, and police are still investigating what caused the wreck. Two other riders were hospitalized, and friends are remembering victim Jalijah Montez Craine as a loyal, upbeat presence in their lives. Dallas police have not yet said whether any charges are expected.

2. UT Southwestern to Open DFW's First State Behavioral Health Hospital This Summer (newswise.com) — Dallas residents will soon see a major expansion of mental health care as UT Southwestern prepares to open the state-run Texas Behavioral Health Center in the Southwestern Medical District this summer. The 292-bed hospital will serve adults and children from across North Texas, offering new models of psychiatric care and significantly increasing access to inpatient behavioral health services in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

3. SFR Growth Decelerates To 15-Year Low (nationalmortgageprofessional.com) — Single-family rents in Dallas are now falling 1.3% year-over-year, the weakest performance among major U.S. metros, even as national rents are still slightly rising. The report frames this as part of a broader “normalization,” with rents still well above pre-pandemic levels. Investors are being nudged toward stronger-growth markets like Chicago and Detroit instead of Dallas.

4. Is Lane Splitting Legal in the State of Texas? (wearelubbock.com) — If you’ve seen motorcyclists zipping between lanes in Dallas traffic, Texas law is not on their side. A recent I-20 jam in Dallas sparks this explainer on lane splitting, clarifying that riding between lanes is illegal statewide and can bring fines, license points, and accident liability for riders.

5. NFL roundup: Broncos edge Chiefs to retain AFC's No. 1 spot (star-telegram.com) — Dallas fans saw the Cowboys finally snap a three-game skid, with Dak Prescott throwing for 307 yards and two touchdowns in a 30–23 road win over Washington. Malik Davis powered the ground game with 103 rushing yards as Dallas improved to 7-8-1 and kept faint playoff hopes alive in a busy NFL Christmas slate.
