Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- Dallas' Reunion Tower will be dimming its lights by 50 percent through Oct. 10 to help migrating birds. The tower's bright artificial lights distract and disorient birds — the dimming will reduce that effect. Nearly two billion birds fly through Texas on their way to the South each year. (NBC DFW)
- The U.S. Department of Justice is granting the Dallas-Fort Worth areas more than $2 million to reduce the area's rape kit backlog. The money will also help prevent future backlogs from occurring. According to Texas Senator John Cornyn, each untested rape kit is a failure to the victim and communities that local authorities have sworn to protect. (FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth)
- Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson's new program will provide free sports tickets to Dallas children. The Mayor's Youth Ticket Program is meant for children between 12 and 17 years of age. Additional tickets will be distributed for chaperones. Click the following link for eligibility requirements, participating partners, and information. (CW33)
