1 Killed, 4 Hurt After Car Plows Into N. Austin Construction Zone
The incident occurred along the North Mopac Expressway southbound where one was pronounced dead at the scene and 4 were critically injured.
NORTH AUSTIN, TX — One person was killed and four others seriously injured after a motorist drove into a North Austin construction site late Tuesday, medics said.
The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. along the 12200 block of North Mopac Expressway southbound, Austin-Travis County EMS said via Twitter. Upon arrival, according to the tweet, medics pronounced one person dead at the scene.
In a subsequent tweet, medics said an adult patient was transported to St. David's Round Rock hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. Medics said a second patient was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with serious injuries, a third to St. David's Round Rock hospital with potentially serious injuries and a fourth Dell Seton with serious injuries.

It's unclear if the person who died was the driver or a pedestrian. Medics released no further details.

Given the scale of the crash — requiring four ambulances to be dispatched — motorists were urged to avoid the area. Patch will update if more details are shared by emergency personnel.
