Arrest Made In Austin Aggravated Sexual Assault Case

AUSTIN, TX — An arrest has been made in connection to an aggravated sexual assault that occurred in November in downtown Austin, police said on Wednesday.

To effect the arrest, the Austin Police Department said they requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals-led Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in locating and apprehending a suspect wanted in the Nov. 9 aggravated sexual assault that occurred in the 1600 block of E. 7th Street.

In an earlier advisory, police said the incident occurred in an alley along the 1600 block of East 7th Street between 5-5:20 a.m. Police said an investigation showed the victim was walking in the street along East 7th Street when the suspect physically and sexually assaulting her before fleeing.

Police said an anonymous Capital Area Crime Stoppers tip helped police identify Steven M. Guerrero Jr., 23, as the suspect in this case. On Nov. 24, police said, the Lone Star Fugitive Taskforce located and arrested Guerrero in the 1500 block of Spring Peony Ct. in Pflugerville. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Travis County jail with a bond of $550,000.
