Arrest Made In Death Of Cedar Park Infant

Miguel Angel Gonzalez, 25, has been charged in a case dating to July 19 when police were alerted to a dead 8-month-old infant.

CEDAR PARK, TX — An arrest has been made in connection to a child injury case dating to this past summer, Cedar Park police said on Wednesday.

Members of the Cedar Park Organized Crime and Warrants Unit arrested Miguel Angel Gonzalez, 25, Wednesday morning before booking him into the Travis County Jail, police said in an advisory. The arrest comes as a result of a July 19 service call inside an apartment unit in the 11000 block of Anderson Mill when police were alerted an 8-month-old infant found dead, police added.

An autopsy conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed extensive physical trauma to the infant, according to the police account.

"Based on our investigation, Gonzalez is not the biological father of the infant but did reside with the infant’s mother and considered himself the infant’s stepfather," police wrote.

Police charged Gonzalez with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. The charge is a first degree felony and carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or for any term not longer than 99 years or less than 5 years.

This case was worked alongside the Cedar Park Criminal Investigations Division Special Victims Unit and prosecutors with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, according to the advisory.

In providing the update, police took the time to alert residents on how to report suspected child abuse: "There are ways you can help stop child maltreatment if you suspect or know that a child is being abused or neglected. If you or someone else is in immediate and serious danger, you should call 911. You can also reach out to various resources like the National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453."
