Arrest Made In Killing Of Man Found In South Austin Ditch

AUSTIN, TX — An arrest has been made in the killing of a man found mortally injured in a South Austin ditch, police said Wednesday.

The case dates to Sept. 4 just before 8:25 p.m. along the 3600 block of Chapman Lane. There, officers found a man in a ditch with obvious trauma throughout his body. Despite life-saving measures, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased man was identified as Desmond Alexander Herrera, 25, who was an employee at a game room located at 3612 Chapman Lane, according to a police advisory. Police arrested Stephen Alvarado, 25, on a charge of murder, according to police.

Police did not specify the nature of Herrera's injuries. The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will be conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death, police officials said.
