Austin Bakery Pays It Forward Following Devastating Winter Storm
Crema Bakery & Cafe donates more than $10K in food, water to community members most impacted by the damage of the recent inclement weather.
AUSTIN, TX—Following the unprecedented winter ice and snow storm in Texas, countless Austin area residents continue struggling to find food, water and supplies a full week after the devastation. As the community continues to rally to help those hardest hit, one popular Austin bakery has managed to donate more than $10,000 in essential need items in five days.
Crema Bakery & Cafe located at 9001 Brodie Lane began the distribution efforts nearly immediately following the storm, and has been able to assist countless individuals and families as shortages continue impacting the region. "Being in the position that we are, we feel a responsibility to our community. Our job is to feed people," said the bakery's owner Jessica Forkner Tomberlin, who manages the establishment with her wife, Janessa.
"When the storm hit last week, it was just chaos and madness for everybody," Janessa said. "Grocery stores have been out of all of the staples. Lines are really long, and we've got a lot of families and a lot of elderly in our community who just needed a way to be able to get food."

With the ongoing need for assistance, Jessica and Janessa have no plans of slowing down the relief efforts just yet. "We’ll be back at it tomorrow at 10 a.m. If you know anyone who is in need, send them our way. If you need anything, please come by. If you can’t make it, please message us - we’ll do our best to get food to you."
