Austin Community College District Events Dec. 7-13, 2020

Myriad events are scheduled at the college district, culminating with a record-breaking graduation class to receive their diplomas Saturday.

AUSTIN, TX — This is a big week for Austin Community College summer and fall graduates that will lead up to Saturday's virtual graduation ceremony, school officials said.

While much activity has been stilled or slowed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the college district remains a hotbed of activity, with myriad events planned from Dec. 7-13. The district this year boasts a record-breaking graduation class while enrolling more students for the spring semester.

  • Austin Community College hosts a virtual graduation celebration at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 12). The ceremony includes special videos and messages to college district graduates, their families and friends along with the Austin community. Austin Community College will provide every candidate with a personal graduation profile to celebrate their accomplishments. Former State Sen. Kirk Watson will serve as the keynote speaker this year.   • Record-breaking graduating class: More than 3,400 graduates will be recognized for completing an associate degree, certificate, or high school equivalency program this summer and fall. That’s up nearly 50 percent over the past three years, officials noted. The college district previously broke its own spring commencement record in May, when 2,900+ graduates were invited to participate, officials added. All told, college district officials said, more than 6,300 students were invited to commencement in 2020. Official graduate numbers are expected in the coming weeks, school officials said.
  • Snap a picture with a Congrats, Grads! sign: ACC installed Congrats, Grads! signs at all Austin Community College campuses. Graduates are invited to come out and take a picture to commemorate their accomplishment. The signs will be available through next week.
  • Share on social media: Austin Community College also created graduation filters and frames to share graduates' success through social media. Videos and pictures with #ACCGrads and #ACC4Everyone will appear on the district’s custom-made ‘ACC Grads Social Wall’ for everyone to celebrate!   • Austin Community College students persist to get bachelor’s degrees: The road doesn’t end here for ACC graduates. The college was named No. 1 for transfer student success according to recent data released by The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). More than half of students enrolled at Austin Community College have the intention of earning credits that will transfer. The college district has articulation agreements with 58 universities, including The University of Texas, Texas State University, and Texas A&M University.
  • Schedule your interview now: ACC can provide interviews with stand-out graduates, also on the programs, support, and initiatives increasing student success.
  • Spring Registration: Registration for spring classes is underway for Austin Community College. In-person support will be available by appointment only at three campuses strategically located across the district to support students through the registration process. The appointments will support on-campus application assistance to adult education, continuing education, and credit-seeking applicants. Make an appointment by visiting austincc.edu/startnow. The spring semester begins Tuesday, Jan. 19.
  • Austin Community College Board of Trustees Regular Board Meeting: Trustees hosts its regular meeting 3 p.m., Monday (Dec. 7). The virtual meeting is open to the community and is available live via webstream.
