Austin Community College Schedules Events Throughout October
Despite a landscape largely stilled by spread of the coronavirus, the college district has myriad events set from Oct. 5-11.
AUSTIN, TX — Despite a landscape largely stilled by spread of the coronavirus, much is happening at Austin Community College.
Events set for Oct. 5-11 include:
- Support paying for college: October is Financial Aid month, which means the 2020-21 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) was just released. The sooner students apply, the greater their chances are to receive federal aid. The average award accepted by Austin Community College students is about $5,200. The college district hosts a series of financial aid workshops from Oct. 12-20 to help students explore their options and complete applications. For more information, visit the Financial Aid Month portal of the Austin Community College homepage.
- Austin Community College selected for national Community College Growth Engine Fund initiative: Austin Community College is one of six colleges nationwide — and the only college in Texas — selected for a new initiative to deliver focused, market-driven education to close skills gaps in the U.S. workforce. The college will build new fast-track programs to help up- and re-skill displaced workers. Currently, the college offers a 50 percent tuition discount for 12 of the most high-demand fast-track programs offered through its Continuing Education Division. The discount runs through Dec. 15. - Inaugural TEXGHS consortium: ACC is at the forefront of finding a solution for COVID-19. Leading biomedical experts in Central Texas, including ACC Bioscience Incubator Interim Director Nancy Lyon, will host the inaugural Texas Global Health Security Innovation Consortium. The group was formed to accelerate the effort of bioscience innovators to redirect their work toward finding a solution for COVID-19. The virtual event is virtually 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m, Tuesday (Oct.6). Registration is now open.
- Austin Community College Board of Trustees Regular Board Meeting: The board of trustees will gather for members' regular meeting 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5. The virtual meeting is open to the community and is available live via webstream.
- World Teachers’ Day: ACC music professor develops app to keep students on key: Austin Community College recognizes professors who go above and beyond to ensure students have what they need to be successful in their educational and personal journeys. Professors are adapting to COVID-19 learning, including developing a music app, Ensemble Class, to allow students to practice and record their performances against the rest of the ensemble.
