Austin Community College Schedules Myriad Events

Much activity has been stilled in an age of pandemic, but Austin Community College campuses remain hotbeds of activity.

AUSTIN, TX — Much activity has ground to a halt in an age of pandemic, but Austin Community College District campuses remain hotbeds of activity, with many events and happenings occurring from Oct. 19-25.

Events include:

  • Working through the confusion to help pay for college: Austin Community College offers free assistance for students applying for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The application can connect students with financial aid, grants, loans, and work-study. All students who fill out the form, and qualify, are connected with financial assistance. Students may now RSVP for 1-on-1 support to fill out the forms. For more information, visit austincc.edu/financialaid.
  • Career Forum: Communication in Careers: As officers and companies have employees working from home, how we communicate has changed. As part of ACC’s Communications Week, three communications experts will explore the challenges of staying together while apart, how corporate America is overcoming those challenges, and how applicants can stand out. The conversation is Noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22. Guest speakers include Owais Siddiqui, director of product management at Match.com, Dr. Crystal Wotipka, senior community outreach manager at Rifeline, and Lana McGilvray, M.A., co-founder and CEO of Purpose Worldwide. Registration is now open.
  • Learn about seamless transfer pathways with Honors Week: ACC hosts a Transfer Talk webinar 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19. Students will meet with others who have successfully transferred to get tips and advice and can chat directly with an ACC transfer specialist. The college was named No. 1 for transfer student success according to recent data released by The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). The Honors Program provides smaller classes, emphasizes active learning, and offers coursework involving research, creative expression, and community service.
  • ACC experts weigh-in on cybersecurity safety: October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. In an increasingly virtual world, ACC experts are releasing tips for keeping your information private online, including extra precaution while telecommuting.
