Austin Diaper Bank Hosts Back-To-School Period Supply Drive

AUSTIN, TX—The Austin Diaper Bank and its Bright Spot Program invite the community to the kick-off of their Back-to-School Period Supply Drive, with community donations to be matched by 40,000 products from U by Kotex®. The start of school is just around the corner, and as Central Texas return to the classrooms, Austin Diaper Bank requests the community's support to help equip students with the tools needed to succeed — period products.

Thursday, Aug. 12 from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. will be the kickoff event for August's back-to-school period supply drive. The kickoff supply drive will run through the entire month of August, and the community is encouraged to bring period products to the Austin Diaper Bank Warehouse located at 2210 Denton Dr, Austin, TX 78758 with parking available in front of warehouse.

Period products also can be purchased and donated through the Bright Spot Amazon wish list or to dropped off at Austin Diaper Bank collection sites across the area. Financial contributions to Bright Spot also are accepted.

“Period supplies are just as much school supplies as pens, notebooks or folders,” said Holly McDaniel, executive director of the Austin Diaper Bank. “They allow students to attend school and focus on learning without worrying about their personal hygiene. Shockingly, one in five students miss school each month because they and their families don’t have the necessary period products.”

Over 460,000 period products have been provided to the community since February 2019 through Austin Diaper Bank and Bright Spot. These products are distributed through its 35 community partners that receive diapers, two Austin ISD schools and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area.
