Austin Pets Alive! Receives Grant To Help Senior Dogs

The Grey Muzzle Organization has selected APA! as one of 77 groups receiving grants to help at-risk senior dogs live their best life.

AUSTIN, TX—The Grey Muzzle Organization, a national nonprofit helping welfare organizations nationwide to provide care, comfort, and loving homes for senior dogs, announced Austin Pets Alive! as a winning recipient of one of its annual grants for a fifth consecutive year. As one of 77 animal welfare groups chosen from 266 applicants reciting more than $616,000 in grants, APA! was awarded the grant to assist in their efforts to save or improve the lives of at-risk senior dogs in and around the Austin community.

Historically, senior dogs have faced difficulties finding homes to be adopted into due to the hesitancy to take in an older pet. Many of the senior dogs at shelters arrive with extensive medical needs, with most traditional shelters lacking the resources for treatment. APA! offers specialized programs that provide the care older dogs need, including the necessary medical care for the improvement of quality of life as they wait to be adopted. “Senior dogs are the best for so many reasons!” said APA!’s Dog Adoption Manager, Allison Swearingen. “It's always sad to see them end up in a shelter setting in what should be their golden, easy years; but luckily tons of people are catching on about these well-mannered pups! They already have years of training under their belts and are just looking for a comfy home to spend the rest of their lives in while giving all their love to whomever is lucky enough to rescue them!”
