Austin Police Seek Tips On Deadly Conduct Investigation

Help from the public is sought in a deadly conduct investigation during which a motorist fired shots at another driver along U.S. 290.

AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Police Department is seeking help from the public with a deadly conduct investigation during which a motorist fired shots at another driver along U.S. 290 nearly two weeks ago.

The incident dates to Aug. 21 just before 11:45 a.m. at 6415 E. U.S. 290 service road eastbound, according to an advisory. Police at the time received multiple 9-1-1 calls alerting to shots being fired from a black sedan, possibly a Hyundai Sonata, at an older-model black Mitsubishi. The sedan — a photo of which was provided by police — appeared to be actively chasing the Mitsubishi on the highway, police said.

Officers subsequently interviewed witnesses, canvassed the area for video and located a number of shell casings on scene, according to the advisory. "It is unclear, at this point in the investigation, whether anyone was struck by gunfire," police added.
