Austin Traffic Alert: U.S. 183 Lanes To Close For Paving

The main lanes of the key artery will be shut down early next week starting on Sunday and into Thursday, state transportation officials said

AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation will close the southbound US 183 mainlanes nightly for paving next week, officials announced Friday.

The closures are:

  • Sunday, Aug. 30 and Monday, Aug. 31, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, crews will close the southbound U.S. 183 mainlanes near Payton Gin Road. Drivers will be detoured to the frontage road via the Payton Gin Road/Ohlen Road exit and will re-enter southbound US 183 at the entrance ramp near Lamar Boulevard.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 1 through Thursday, Sept. 3, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, crews will close the southbound U.S. 183 mainlanes east of Lamar Boulevard. Drivers will be detoured to the frontage road via the I-35 North/Waco exit and will re-enter southbound U.S. 183 at the entrance ramp just north of Cameron Road.

Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the closure, and motorists are urged to exercise extra caution when traveling through the area.
