Brush Fire Along Onion Creek 90 Percent Contained

The fire broke out off Estancia Parkway and Camino Vaquero Parkway.

AUSTIN, TX — A brush fire broke out in south Travis County and burned 50 acres on Saturday, officials said. By Sunday afternoon, firefighters said the blaze was 90 percent contained.

The Austin Fire Department is one of the agencies fighting with the blaze off Estancia Parkway and Camino Vaquero Parkway. The fire burned in uninhabited land along Onion Creek.

Officials said that no evacuations have been ordered but cautioned that residents of Old San Antonio and Onion Creek Parkway needed to remain alert. The fire was caused by sparks from contractors grinding on a metal fence post, Austin fire officials said.

Crews are continuing to monitor the fire and work on any hot spots.

No structures are threatened by the fire, officials said. Along with the Manchaca Fire Department, Travis County Fire, Westlake Fire, Star Flight, Texas Forest Service and the Austin Fire Department are working to contain the fire.

Austin fire officials say they received multiple calls for smoke odor due to the brush fire. Officials asked residents to refrain from calling 911 unless they see fire or have smoke or smoke odor inside a structure.
