Cedar Park Police To Launch Labor Day DWI Initiative
Plan to discourage, reduce and enforce drunk driving violations will run from this Friday to next Monday, law enforcement officials said.
CEDAR PARK, TX — The Cedar Park Policd Department plans to conduct a DWI initiative throughout the Labor Day weekend to discourage, reduce and enforce drunk driving violations, officials said Wednesday.
The initiative will take place from Friday, Sept. 4, to Monday, Sept. 7.
Law enforcement officials said Labor Day weekend traditionally results in heavy traffic volumes throughout the state, which can lead to increased accidents, serious injuries and fatalities. “We want to remind everyone to make the responsible choice not to drive if they are impaired in any way,” Cedar Park Police Chief Mike Harmon said in a prepared statement. “We need commitment from our community members that they’ll keep the streets free of drunk drivers so that everyone can have a safe holiday. This is a campaign to get the message out that drunk or impaired driving is illegal and it takes lives. Help us protect the community and put an end to this senseless behavior.”

Cedar Park Police recommend these safe alternatives to drinking and driving:
- Remember that it is never okay to drink and drive. Even if you’ve had only one alcoholic beverage, designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or a ride service to get home safely.
- If you see a drunk driver on the road, call 9-1-1.
- Wear a seat belt, drive the speed limit and put your phone away while driving.
- Do you have a friend who is about to drink and drive? Take the keys away and arrange to get your friend home safely.
"The Cedar Park Police Department is focused on saving lives and making roadways safe for everyone through education and enforcement," officials wrote in an advisory. "Our goal is for drivers to get the message that driving impaired will never be tolerated. Don’t risk a DWI this Labor Day Weekend. Plan while you can and together, let’s end the streak of deadly accidents."
