Celebrate Opening Weekend Of Austin-Centric Exhibitions

AUSTIN, TX— The Contemporary Austin - Jones Center, known for artist-centric projects and collaborations, invite the community to the opening weekend featuring two Austin inspired exhibitions, Daniel Johnston: I Live My Broken Dreams and Crit Group Reunion.

Guests will step into the surreal universe of visionary musician and artist Daniel Johnston, and his exhibition filled with love, loss, ghosts, aliens, superheroes and the eternal battle between good and evil. Keeping with this Austin-centric theme, guests will also get a crash course on the diverse visual art thriving in the city, with works by more than 50 local artists showcased in the Crit Group Reunion show.

The weekend events will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 and Sunday, Sept. 12, with complimentary refreshments beginning at 12 p.m., as well as live music, art making, and mingling on the rooftop planned on both days until 6 p.m. Happy hour begins at 3 p.m. and includes drinks courtesy of LALO Tequila, Tito’s and Two Robbers Seltzer. Topo Chico and CLEAN Cause will also be available throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday.

Limited tickets available due to COVID-19, and updated safety guidelines at The Contemporary Austin include the following from the organizer:

The Contemporary Austin requires that all guests wear masks in any of its indoor spaces and encourages guests to be vaccinated. All visitors are required to purchase or reserve timed tickets online in advance of visiting either location. Tickets are available at thecontemporaryaustin.org/visit. The museum appreciates the public’s patience as it navigates the current COVID environment in Austin. All event details subject to change.
