AUSTIN, TX — With the start of in-person learning for the Austin Independent School District on Monday, Central Health-affiliated CommUnityCare is moving testing for the coronavirus from Barbara Jordan Elementary to the Turner-Roberts Recreation Center beginning Friday, officials said.

The new testing site at the Turner-Roberts Recreation Center is located at 7201 Colony Park Loop.

Testing for the respiratory illness will be available Monday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at least through January 30, 2021, officials said in an advisory.

“Like most of the country, Austin is seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases and CommUnityCare wants to continue to make testing as accessible as possible — especially in Eastern Travis County,” Yvonne Camarena, CommUnityCare's chief operating officer, said in a prepared statement. “However, when Barbara Jordan Elementary opens its campus Monday, we need a different testing location so we don’t interfere with students, parents and teachers getting back into the classroom.”

Central Health and CommUnityCare have been operating a mobile health clinic at Barbara Jordan Elementary for nearly two years, and added COVID-19 testing at the same location this spring. However, when the campus re-opens there won’t be enough space in the parking lot for the mobile clinic, COVID-19 testing, and traffic from parents, teachers, and staff, officials explained.

Turner-Roberts Recreation Center, operated by Austin’s Park and Recreation Department, is next to Overton Elementary School. People wanting a test will be directed to go around Colony Park Loop Drive to the recreation center to avoid school drop-off and pick-up traffic at Overton Elementary.

To find a testing location convenient for you, call the COVID-19 Hotline at (512) 978-8775, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or visit the COVID-19 Information portal on the Central Health website.
