Eat Some 'Bizarre Russian Food' in Downtown Austin
Always wanted to try kholodets? Now's your chance.
Russia House is already known for its eclectic and authentic menu. Now it’s keeping Austin weird by offering up what it calls “bizarre Russian food.”
On Wednesday night you can come to the restaurant for a $30 prix-fixe menu featuring “a variety of weird and the weirdest dishes: doktorskaya bologna, herring, beef tongue, blini with sour cream and caviar, jelly meat and much more.”
There will be all kinds of Russian food to try, and some of the classic menu items will be served with a twist.

“We will have food items that are on the menu, like herring or salo, but they might be served in a different way,” Russia House General Manager Roman Butvin told Patch. “For example, we will serve herring on rye bread, like many Russians enjoy it. On the menu it’s herring with fried potatoes.”
“We will also have things that we don’t have on our regular menu, like jellied meat, kholodets, etc.,” he said.
