Homeless Man Fatally Shot At South Austin Bus Stop
The incident occurred just before 5:30 a.m. along the 6500 block of 1st St. where the victim was fatally shot as he slept at a bus stop.
AUSTIN, TX — A homeless man at a South Austin bus stop was found dead at the scene after succumbing to a gunshot wound on Wednesday, police said.
The incident occurred just before 5:30 a.m. along the 6500 block of 1st St., according to a police news release. Emergency operators received a call of a man bleeding at a bus stop where he had been sleeping, according to police. Police said the man was killed as he slept, and no motive is known.
The man was identified as John M. Young, 60, who was experiencing homelessness when he was killed, police said.

As detectives investigated, police said, they learned of multiple 9-1-1 calls made shortly after 1 a.m. alerting to multiple shots fired near William Cannon Drive and South 1st Street. Officers canvassed that area for clues, according to the advisory, but found nothing suspicious.
A $1,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest. Police also ask anyone with information or cell phone video of the incident to call homicide detectives at (512) 974-TIPS; the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (512) 472-8477 (TIPS), use the new Crime Stoppers App or email detectives at homicide.apd@austintexas.gov.
