Hurricane Laura Evacuees Depart Austin Back Home To Gulf Coast
More than 450 evacuees were transported via bus to their homes in the aftermath of a powerful storm along the Gulf Coast.

AUSTIN, TX — There were 110 Hurricane Laura evacuees at the Austin Convention Center overnight, officials said Saturday, and the Circuit of the Americas that served as makeshift intake center for the influx is now closed.
The Capital Area Shelter Hub and the Red Cross have established the Austin Convention Center as makeshift shelter for those who evacutated to Central Texas ahead of the storm.
Many evacuees already have returned home. City officials said a bus carrying evacuees from Beaumont and Port Arthur left on Saturday. The day before, officials added, 24 buses carrying 452 evacuees transported individuals back to the Galveston area.

The Capital Area Shelter Hub run by the City of Austin, Hays County, Travis County, and Williamson County has housed approximately 3,000 evacuees at 21 hotels and the Austin Convention Center, officials said.
