Hurricane Laura Evacuees Transferred To Hotel Rooms
The remaining evacuees from Lousiana and the Texas Gulf Coast were moved away from makeshift shelter space at the Austin Convention Center.
AUSTIN, TX — The remaining Hurricane Laura evacuees still in Austin for safe housing were moved from makeshift shelter space at the Austin Convention Center into hotel rooms between last night and Monday morning, officials said.
The hotel rooms are provided by the State of Texas and Red Cross, according to a city advisory. The reception center at Circuit of the Americas has closed, and city staff are no longer present at the Austin Convention Center after the facility was closed as makeshift shelter, officials said.
Evacuees from Louisiana can text “LAShelter” to 898-211 to secure information. Evacuees from Texas can call 2-1-1 for information. Evacuees from both states can also call the Red Cross for shelter information at 866-438-4636.If evacuees need to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for disaster assistance call 800-621-3362, visit DisasterAssistance.gov or download the FEMA app.

The Capital Area Shelter Hub run by the City of Austin, Hays County, Travis County and Williamson County housed approximately 3,000 evacuees at 21 hotels and the Austin Convention Center during the past week, officials said.
