‘I WENT BACK’: Texas Woman Donates $300 Ralph Lauren Barn Jacket. Then She Regrets It

"I'm stressed that I got rid of it."

A Texas woman seemingly accidentally donated a Ralph Lauren barn jacket that some commenters claimed was worth $300 in Arizona. So she went back to the consignment shop that she donated to and bought it back again.

Many commenters were surprised Karli Hauver (@karlikinghauver) was able to return to the store and manage to find the piece again of her own volition. The TikTok content creator didn’t necessarily ask store associates to find it for her or shop around for it, either. Instead, she found it on the shelves and re-purchased it, as it was “her mistake” donating it in the first place

She posted about the encounter on TikTok, garnering over 193,000 views on her video trying to regain the lost possession.

While many congratulated her on getting her jacket back, others wondered whether it was truly fair to have second-hand doubts, especially after donating a piece to a regular consignment shop and learning it was worth a pretty penny. Despite this, commenters congratulated Hauver on finding the jacket again, even if it still wasn’t her personal style.

Why Did Hauver Donate the Jacket in the First Place?

Prior to looking for her Ralph Lauren Jacket with her TikTok audience, Hauver was actually posting a “haul” video, which showed off some items she needed to get rid off. As she described, Hauver is “ a hoarder with the most random style narrowing for the baseball season,” as her husband plays professionally. During baseball season, she tries to pare down her clothing so she can be flexible when her husband, Trevor Hauver, plays for Round Rock Express.

In a video posted on Jan. 3, she showed off her Ralph Lauren coat and placed it in her donation pile. Hauver said that the jacket was “just giving grandma,” and tossed it to the floor with the rest of her donations.

Later on, she took her donations to a local consignment shop off camera.

But commenters told her that donating the barn coat was a major mistake. “I can’t believe you got rid of the barn coat, NOOO,” said one viewer.

Another added, “Omg the floral barn coat is to die for Kar!”

Hauver Returns to the Consignment Shop for the Jacket

Once she realized how many of her commenters thought the barn jacket was cute, Hauver started to have second thoughts. Eventually, she decided to go back for it.

“I just posted my sweater closet clean out and all of you're freaking out that I donated this Floral Barn jacket from Ralph Lauren,” Hauver told her audience. “So we are gonna go back to the consignment store that I donated and see if they have it.”

Hauver went to the store with another person, who seemed mildly (yet jokingly) frustrated by the fact that she donated the jacket and that they were returning to the consignment store for it. In an exchange, Hauver discussed that her presumed friend was “so mad” at her for going back for the item.

“ I was in like a mode where I just wanted to get rid of stuff and now I'm stressed that I got rid of it and shouldn't have,” Hauver said. The friend wasn’t necessarily mad that Hauver wanted the jacket back, but rather, that Hauver seemingly knew she still didn’t like the item but wanted to hold onto it anyway.

They went inside the consignment shop and found the Ralph Lauren jacket for sale. Her friend stated that the jacket was “hideous,” but Hauver was extremely excited to find the jacket again. It was $20 in-store, a steep discount considering commenter’s claims that the jacket can sell for between $200–$300.

She snatched the jacket back up again. Her friend told the “hoarder” that she has “a problem.” but Hauver didn’t seem to mind. She put the jacket on while exiting the store.

How Much Does a Ralph Lauren Barn Jacket Really Sell For?

There aren’t many identical Ralph Lauren barn jackets available to purchase online on platforms like eBay and Poshmark. But similar jackets, albeit with a different color scheme, list for nearly $200 online. Other vintage jackets from the ‘90s in more pristine condition can sell for $299, although they don’t match Hauver’s jacket. There are even some floral canvas jackets from the ‘80s that list for $400.

It’s plausible that if Hauver were to resell her floral jacket, she could get $100+ on a resale application or platform. That’s one of the reasons why some commenters questioned her decision to go back for it, especially considering the fact that Hauver thought it was somewhat “grandma” like before.

As one commenter asked, “Do you want it because you love it? Or do you want it because it’s ‘worth’ a lot of money?”

In the comments, Hauver even may have found a potential buyer. Hauver asked how much the buyer would spend for it, and clarified the size for them.

Currently, it’s unknown as to whether Hauver sold the jacket to this person or has listed it online, although she may very well do so.
