Labor Day DWI Crackdown Starts Friday In Austin
The initiative will be in effect nightly from Friday through Sept. 7 between the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 p.m., police officials said.
AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Police Department will be bolstering its patrols on the lookout for drunk drivers starting Friday as part of its Labor Day DWI initiative.
The initiative will be in effect nightly from Friday through Sept. 7 between the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 p.m., police officials said in an advisory.
"The goal of this initiative is to keep the public safe during this peak travel period by encouraging drivers to make responsible decisions and to have personnel available to take enforcement action if required," police wrote. "The Austin Police Department is focused on saving lives on the streets and highways of Austin and making Austin roadways safe for everyone through education and enforcement.

The local initiative is made possible via an Impaired Driving Mobilization grant from the Texas Department of Public Safey, officials said. Labor Day is observed on Sept. 7.
