Man Killed After Crashing Car Into Pole In North Austin

Danires Antonio Guerra-Mancia, 24, was traveling southbound when he lost control of his car along the 8700 block of Interstate 35 Sunday.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday identified the driver who was killed on Sunday after crashing his car into a pole while traveling along an Interstate 35 service road in North Austin.

The incident occurred just before 12:35 a.m. along the 8700 block of the I-35 service road, according to a police advisory. A police investigation showed that a gray, 2006 Chevy Aveo driven by Danires Antonio Guerra-Mancia, 24, was traveling southbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The car struck a wooden pole, police said, coming to rest on the driver's side.

Guerra-Mancia died at the scene, police said, while a passenger in the car sustained life-threatening injuries.

The incident marked Austin’s 82nd fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 86 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 82 traffic fatalities.
