Pastries Sold In Texas Without Allergen Declaration Recalled

Tee Yih Jia Food Manufacturing voluntarily recalled its chicken and beef samosa products containing spring roll pastries containing milk.

AUSTIN, TX — Federal food regulators this weekend issued a public health alert for chicken and beef samosa products containing spring roll pastries packaged without noting it contained milk, a known allergen, on the labeling.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service the food's manufacturer, Tee Yih Jia (TYJ) Food Manufacturing, voluntarily recalled the product due to the misbranding. The products were disbursed by distributors in Texas as well as in California and New York, according to the recall notice.

The chicken and beef samosas items were produced from Nov. 11, 2019, through Nov. 11 of this year, regulators said.

  • 12-ounce packages containing 12 pieces of “TAZA CHICKEN SAMOSAS Stuffed pastry with seasoned chicken” with best by dates of Nov. 11, 2020, through Nov. 11, 2021.
  • 12-ounce packages containing 12 pieces of “TAZA BEEF SAMOSAS Stuffed pastry with seasoned ground beef” with best by dates of Nov. 11, 2020, through November 11, 2021.
  • 12-ounce packages containing 12 pieces of “SOUTH ASIAN FOOD Beef SAMOSAS Stuffed pastry with seasoned ground beef” with best before dates of Nov. 11, 2020 through Nov. 11, 2021.
  • 12-ounce packages containing 12 pieces of “SOUTH ASIAN FOOD Chicken SAMOSAS Stuffed pastry with seasoned chicken” with best before dates of Nov. 11, 2020, through Nov. 11, 2021.

The products bear establishment number “EST. 44163” or “P-44163” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Regulators said the issue was discovered during routine verification activities. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, officials noted. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider, regulators advised. Regulators added that the affected products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
