Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car In East Austin

An unidentified woman succumbed to injuries six days after being hit by a car along the 1100 block of Airport Boulevard in mid-November.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Wednesday offered details related to the death of a pedestrian who was killed after being hit by a car in East Austin in November.

The incident occurred just past 10 p.m. along the 1100 block of Airport Boulevard on Nov. 13. A preliminary police investigation showed a black 2014 Chevrolet Impala was traveling southbound toward Goodwin Avenue when the vehicle collided with the pedestrian.

The woman has not been identified pending next-of-kin notification, the crash victim was in a section of the roadway not designated for pedestrians as detailed in a police account. Police said the woman was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries six days later.

Police noted the driver remained on scene in cooperating with an investigation by members of law enforcement. The driver showed no indication of impairment, police said, and neither speed nor weather conditions appear to have been a factor in the crash. As a result, police said no criminal charges are expected to be filed.

The incident marked the city's 76th fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 81 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 76 traffic fatalities.
