Police ID Bicyclist Struck, Killed By Multiple Cars In E. Austin
Police said a man was struck by multiple vehicles just before 6 a.m. on Aug. 3 along the 1500 block of Highway 71 westbound.
AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the bicyclist who was killed after being struck by multiple vehicles earlier this month.
The incident occurred just before 6 a.m. on August 3 along the 1500 block of Highway 71 westbound. Police received reports of a body in the roadway before discovering 41-year-old Miguel Angel Rodriguez with obvious trauma throughout his body, and the bicycle he had been riding nearby.
Police said the drivers of two of the vehicles that hit Rodriguez stopped to wait for their arrival, but an investigation showed that the first vehicle that collided with the bicyclist did not remain at the scene.

The incident marked Austin’s 51st fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 56 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 46 traffic fatalities.
