Police Identify Pedestrian Killed Along North Austin Highway

The incident along the 7800 block of I-35 in April marked the 29th fatal crash this year, up from 24 in last year's comparable period.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed along Interstate 35 in April.

The incident occurred along the 7800 block of I-35 on April 20 just after 10:30 p.m. A police investigation showed that a black, 2014 F150 truck was traveling northbound in the inside lane when it collided with a pedestrian who was walking with a companion who was uninjured. Police noted in an advisory that the driver remained on the scene to cooperate with their investigation, an no charges are expected to be filed.

The pedestrian pronounced dead at the scene was identified as Shawn West, 58.

The incident marked Austin’s 29th fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 31 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 24 traffic fatalities.
