Texas Coronavirus Cases Grow By 13,857, 244 New Deaths
The new diagnoses pushed cumulative totals to 1,215,113 cases and 22,000 deaths since respiratory illness first swept across the state.
AUSTIN, TX — Texas reported 13,857 new cases of the coronavirus and 244 additional deaths on Thursday, pushing cumulative totals to 1,215,113 and 22,000, respectively, since respiratory illness first swept across the state.
Updated data were input in a statistical dashboard maintained by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The dashboard also shows the number of people hospitalized across the state grew by 42 from the previous day for a total of 9,151 current hospitalizations. There are an estimated 189,972 active cases of illness, a growth of 4,205.
The new number of cases reported on Thursday is 901 fewer than the 14,758 that emerged the previous day. Also on Wednesday, 207 more deaths were reported.

In addition to the 13,857 new cases, state health officials added a note on the dashboard to report an additional 582 older cases that had not been input previously into the dashboard. The greatest number of cases among the previously unreported cases emerged in Deaf Smith County (173) and hard-hit El Paso County (147).

Texas Department of State Health Services officials expressed concern about the rapid spread of the virus across the state. "COVID-19 is spreading quickly," officials wrote on Twitter. "This is not the time to let up, this is the time to fight. Your #HealthyTexas steps are your best defense to protect yourself, your loved ones, and our hospitals."
The steps: Stay six feet apart, wash hands often and stay home when you can and if sick, health officials wrote.

- Harris County: 193,089.
- Dallas County: 129,193.
- Tarrant County: 91,981.
- El Paso County: 88,491.
- Bexar County: 68,920.
- Hidalgo County: 44,153.
- Travis County: 39,037.
- Lubbock County: 33,271.
- Collin County: 27,848.
- Cameron County: 26,342.
- Fort Bend County: 21,502.
- Denton County: 20,741.
- Webb County: 20,280.
- Nueces County: 18,401.
- Montgomery County: 17,268.
- Galveston County: 15,113.
- Brazoria County: 14,726.
- McLennan County: 14,672.
- Williamson County: 13,674.
- Potter County: 13,062.
The top 25 counties with the highest number of fatalities so far are:
