Texas Has 32nd Worst Mobile Internet Connectivity: Report
In a new study, WhistleOut researchers found median download speeds of 25.46 Mbps in Texas, compared to the national median of 27.59 Mbps.
AUSTIN, TX — It's been said everything is bigger in Texas. But according to a new study, mobile internet connectivity in the Lone Star State is rather anemic — ranking 32nd among the states in terms of potency.
According to the WhistleOut report, Texas sees median download speeds of 25.46 Mbps, compared to the national median of 27.59 Mbps. The study also found that 96.9 percent of Texas is covered by 5G.
To rank each state, 75 percent of the score was determined by the median mobile download speed while 25 percent of the score was determined by the area covered by 5G. The area covered stat is derived from ZIP code level data, researchers noted. If a ZIP code has 5G coverage (or partial) the area of that Zip code is included in the “covered” squar miles, according to the methodology. This was then divided by the total square mile of the state, according to the report's authors.

Each measurement then was normalized on a 0-1 scale with 1 corresponding to the measurement that would most positively affect the final score. These adjusted measurements were then added together with the weights mentioned above to get a score of 100, researchers added.
