Texas Reports 12,423 New Coronavirus Cases, 206 New Deaths
Data for Thanksgiving Day pushes the cumulative fatality count past 21,000 since the pandemic began at 21,156 with 8,706 hospitalized.
AUSTIN, TX — Texas reported 12,423 new cases of the coronavirus and 206 more deaths on Thanksgiving Day.
The updated data are found in a statistical dashboard maintained by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The figures come one day after Texas reported a new record for the most cases of the coronavirus cases reported in a single day on Wednesday, with 14,648 new diagnoses emerging from the previous day. Health officials also reported 200 new deaths, bringing the cumulative total to 20,950 on Thanksgiving eve.
With the 206 additional deaths reported on Thursday, the cumulative fatality count across the state now tops 21,000. The dashboard indicates 21,156 Texas residents have succumbed to respiratory illness since the pandemic first swept across the state.

The dashboard also shows that 8,706 people are hospitalized — 121 more than the previous day —and there are just over 179,000 active cases of illness across the state. To date, there have been an estimated 1,143,616 cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began. Some 943,457 people have recovered from the illness, according to the data.

The seven-day average of fatalities is 149, while the average daily case count for new diagnoses is an estimated 1,505 as shown on the dashboard.
According to the state dashboard, the top 20 counties with the highest number of coronavirus cases are:
- Harris County: 187,163.
- Dallas County: 122,184.
- Tarrant County: 85,010.
- El Paso County: 83,993.
- Bexar County: 63,521.
- Hidalgo County: 42,232.
- Travis County: 37,238.
- Lubbock County: 30,592.
- Cameron County: 25,855.
- Collin County: 24,882.
- Fort Bend County: 19,978.
- Denton County: 19,358.
- Webb County: 19,350.
- Nueces County: 17,657.
- Montgomery County: 14,815.
- Galveston County: 14,465.
- Brazoria County: 14,154.
- McLennan County: 14,029.
- Potter County: 12,360.
- Williamson County: 12,272.
The top 25 counties with the greatest number of fatalities since the start of pandemic, according to the state dashboard, are:
