Travis County Sheriff's Office Seek Driver Who Struck Deputy

Three deputies were conducting traffic on McNeil Drive Tuesday morning when one of them was hit by a vehicle.

AUSTIN, TX — The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a driver who struck a deputy who was on duty Tuesday morning, officials said.

Three deputies from the Travis County Sheriff's Office motors unit were conducting traffic enforcement in a school zone on McNeil Drive on Tuesday morning when one of them stepped into an empty lane of travel to stop a vehicle traveling in the other lane, officials wrote in an advisory. The vehicle swerved and hit the deputy, officials said.

Detectives are searching for a silver Lexus ES 350, possibly with Texas license plate MNP-4774. The vehicle may have front-end damage. It was last seen heading west on McNeil Drive from Parmer Lane, according to the advisory. The sheriff's office released surveillance camera images showing the car in question.

While the deputy was not on his motorcycle at the time, officials noted, he was still wearing his helmet. The deputy was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released, officials added.
