1. Year-end recognition for Harker Heights employees (kdhnews.com) — City of Harker Heights employees were treated to a year-end recognition ceremony Monday, complete with a shared meal and plenty of praise from department heads. City Manager David Mitchell helped serve food and announced honorees, including Erica Santoyo Gutierrez and Nocila Loayza as Employees of the Third and Fourth Quarters for 2025.

2. Harker Heights doctor gets appointed to University of Houston board (kdhnews.com) — A Harker Heights resident, optometrist Dr. Tommy Lucas, has been appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to the powerful University of Houston System Board of Regents, with a term running through 2031. Lucas, who cofounded VIEW Optometry in Killeen, will help oversee the entire UH system, bringing Central Texas representation to the university’s top governing body.

3. Fort Hood unveils electric locomotive in ceremony on post (kdhnews.com) — Harker Heights city leaders played a key role in bringing a new all-electric Army locomotive to Fort Hood, including helping secure a state economic adjustment grant. Mayor Michael Blomquist and council members joined Monday’s on-post ribbon cutting, where officials highlighted the project’s environmental benefits and the city’s push toward green energy for Central Texas.

4. Fort Hood's microtransit changing lives (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Residents of Harker Heights can now use the free-or-low-cost Cavazos Connector microtransit system that links the city with Fort Hood and nearby communities like Killeen, Temple, Belton and Copperas Cove. The app-based service, modeled after ride-hailing, has dramatically expanded access for soldiers and civilians, offering thousands of monthly rides across Bell County and adjacent counties while improving quality of life and mobility.
