New solar lighting, drainage fixes, and reinforced docks should be finished by late February, supporting the port’s rapidly growing freight traffic and the local economy.

Harlingen CISD asks for donations for Stuff the Bus event supporting families in need (valleycentral.com) — Harlingen CISD is asking residents to donate canned and non-perishable foods at any district campus through Dec. 16 to support local families in need this holiday season. After providing more than 270 Thanksgiving meals, officials hope to keep that momentum going with the Stuff the Bus drive, emphasizing that every item, from a single soup can to a turkey, helps neighbors here in Harlingen.
   

3. Christmas attraction drawing crowds to McAllen neighborhood (krgv.com) — Harlingen residents are among the crowds traveling to a McAllen neighborhood where a family’s front-yard light show has grown into a major Christmas attraction. The home on 29th Lane features synchronized LED displays, a mini train, and a Santa letter station that now draws hundreds of children each year.
   

4. New DNA testing option for sexual assault survivors in Texas (valleycentral.com) — Survivors of sexual assault in Harlingen and across Texas can now have DNA evidence collected and tested for free, even if they’re not ready to file a police report. A new state program under House Bill 1422 lets survivors control when, or if, they involve law enforcement, while ensuring evidence is tested within 90 days and securely stored for up to five years.
   

5. Texarkana's Angel Tree program seeks community support (ktalnews.com) — A Salvation Army leader helping run Texarkana’s Angel Tree program recalls receiving Christmas gifts as a child in Harlingen underscoring how much the effort means to families in need. With 217 “angels” still unclaimed, organizers are urging last-minute donors to return tags or give money so every child wakes up to presents this Christmas.
