The operations, carried out by multiple specialized units, are part of the department’s push to disrupt local illegal drug activity and emphasize its commitment to community safety. Residents may notice increased enforcement in affected neighborhoods.
   

• Abraham Quintanilla, Selena's father, dies at 86: AB reports (myhighplains.com) — Harlingen is the dateline for news that Abraham Quintanilla, father of Tejano star Selena, has died at 86, according to his son. The longtime musician and original singer of Los Dinos helped launch his children’s famed band, Selena y Los Dinos. Though the family is from Corpus Christi, the report connects this major Tejano music loss to the Valley.
   

• Quarantine Changes for California and Texas (citrusindustry.net) — Harlingen’s Mexican fruit fly quarantine in Cameron County has been lifted, freeing nearly 72 square miles and about 789 acres of commercial citrus from restrictions. Federal and state agriculture officials ended the quarantine after three pest-free generations, while also adjusting separate citrus disease and fruit fly quarantines in several parts of California.
