• Midway ISD eyes pre-K cuts, middle school changes to trim budget (star-telegram.com) — Families with children at Hewitt Elementary face the loss of pre-K for 3-year-olds next year as Midway ISD trims more than $1 million to close a projected $3.5 million budget gap. The district also plans to cut an AVID college-readiness program, change middle school schedules and electives, and drop transfer fees, moves leaders say will help avoid teacher layoffs.
