HOUSTON, TX — A 4-year-old boy is in serious condition after he was shot in the abdomen at a Sunnyside apartment complex Monday night.
The incident happened about 10 p.m. at the Kings Row apartment complex in the 4100 block of Barberry Drive.
Police who were already at the apartment complex for an unrelated incident, heard multiple gunshots fired, responded to the area, and found the child wounded.

Witnesses told officers that two groups of men were fighting in the courtyard, when several of the men began shooting at one another.
The child, who was in his grandmother’s apartment with his mother and siblings watching television, was caught in the crossfire.

The child was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital and is expected to recover.
Loriann Milam, the child’s grandmother, said she was angry that her grandchild had been shot in her home and didn’t want to see the same thing happen to another family.
She appealed to Mayor Sylvester Turner to do something about the crime in her area before another innocent child is hurt, KPRC reported.
“How many more little kids are going to get shot,” Milam told KHOU. “This is not right. Kids should be able to be in their own home and be comfortable and not jumping on the ground like they’re in Beirut.”
