Body Of Burglary Suspect Found In White Oak Bayou
A burglary suspect who evaded police by jumping into White Oak Bayou during a storm on Dec. 27 has been recovered.

HOUSTON, TX — The body of a burglary suspect who jumped into White Oak Bayou to avoid being captured by deputies during a pursuit has been recovered.
Harris County Pct. 1 Constable Alan Rosen announced on Wednesday that deputies who were looking for the missing burglary suspect had found his body on the banks of White Oak Bayou and Buffalo Bayou, near Main and Commerce Streets.
Deputies were called on Dec. 27 to a home in the 600 block of Wendel Street at about 12:30 a.m. for a burglary in progress. When deputies arrived the suspect was leaving in a red Jeep, which was later determined to be stolen.

Deputies ordered the suspect out of the vehicle, but he fled leading deputies on a shorty pursuit.
The suspect immediately stopped his vehicle and fled on foot. While being pursued on foot by deputies, the suspect ran into the swift waters of White Oak Bayou.
Deputies ordered the suspect to swim towards them, but he refused. Deputies said they saw the suspect go under water and not reappear.

Deputies did not enter the water due to the dangerous conditions. The Houston Police Dive Team responded to the area and looked for the suspect for two hours, before calling off the search.
The Houston Police Dive team recovered the body shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The body was taken to Harris County Institute of Forensic Science to determine a cause of death and to make positive identification. This case has been referred to the Houston Police Homicide Division for further investigation.
