More details released on fatal shooting at Gulfton apartment complex (fox26houston.com) — Houston police are investigating a deadly shooting at a Gulfton-area apartment complex, where a 55-year-old man was found fatally wounded outside his family’s unit on Glenmont Drive. Detectives believe he was shot sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning and have not yet identified a suspect or the victim. Anyone with information is urged to contact HPD or Crime Stoppers.

Car crashes into Houston restaurant, burglars hit another location days later (click2houston.com) — A beloved Houston restaurant, Mikki’s Cafe, is pushing through a chaotic holiday week after a car crashed through one location’s dining room and burglars hit another just days later. Texas NASA Intern Stole Moon Rocks in the Name of Love (wearelubbock.com) — A former NASA intern’s notorious moon-rock heist traces back to his time at Johnson Space Center in Houston, where a romance sparked an audacious 2002 theft of lunar samples. The caper, later ending in FBI arrests and prison time, destroyed valuable research but lives on in books and interviews as one of NASA’s strangest love stories.
   

4. Young Black Female Firefighter Dies From Cancer, Officials Say Her Illness Was Job-Related (blacknews.com) — Houston residents are mourning firefighter Brandy Allinience, a Houston Fire Department Station 21 member who died from cancer that officials say was job-related, the fourth such loss among area first responders in a month. Her death, honored with a procession from the Texas Medical Center to Tomball, underscores a troubling pattern also affecting officers and firefighters in La Marque, League City, and Rosenberg.
   

5. At least 5 dead after Mexican military plane crashes near Galveston Causeway, officials say (houstonpublicmedia.org) — A Mexican Navy medical-support flight crashed into the water near the Galveston Causeway on Monday afternoon, killing at least five people and leaving one presumed dead. Houston-based Mexican consular officials and Houston Public Media provided key details, including that two civilian passengers survived and several military personnel and a pediatric patient were among the deceased.
