Burglar Possibly Drowned After Jumping In Bayou To Evade Police

A burglary suspect may have drowned after he ran into White Oak Bayou to evade police and never resurfaced, police said.

HOUSTON, TX — A burglary suspect who jumped into White Oak Bayou to escape police may have drowned, officials said. Harris County Sheriff’s deputies were called at about 1 a.m. to a home on Wendel Street for a burglary.

When deputies arrived at the home, the suspect got into a red Jeep and fled the area, leading deputies on a short pursuit.

Officials said the suspect stopped, ran into the bayou, and went under. Deputies did not see the man surface.
