Councilman Dwight Boykins Making Bid For Houston Mayor
The list of Houston mayoral prospects grew by one more after Dwight Boykins became the 3rd candidate to challenge Mayor Turner in November.

HOUSTON — The candidates vying to unseat Mayor Sylvester Turner grew by one more on Wednesday when District D Councilman Dwight Boykins filed paperwork to run for mayor in November.
Boykins joins Houston Attorney Tony Buzbee and former Houston City Councilman Bill King in the race to unseat Turner.
The filing follows a tease this weekend when a video clip from the www.dwightboykinsformayor.com website was leaked, fueling speculation that Boykins was running.

Boykins told KTRK on Monday that he hadn't made a final decision, but the filing of his paperwork two days later suggests the decision has been finalized.

The possibility of a mayoral run has been brewing for much of the year, and was punctuated with public clashes with Turner over Proposition B.
Meanwhile, Buzbee who has been a strong voice of opposition against Turner's practices at city hall regarding the handling of Prop B, tweeted out a copy of Boykins filing application welcoming the councilman to the race.
I enthusiastically welcome council member Dwight Boykins to the mayor’s race. I’d also love to see Sue Lovell run as well. The more the merrier. pic.twitter.com/fI7JjCxgMK

Ironically, Boykins' campaign manager is former Houston Mayor Lee P. Brown, who also served as HPD Police Chief from 1982 to 1990.
Candidates have until June 20 to sign up for a place on the ballot.
Early voting in the general election begins Oct. 21 and runs through Nov. 1. The general election will be held Nov. 5.
