Crimes Stoppers, HPD Looking For Clues In 1983 Cold Case Murder

Houston Police look to find clues and finally learn who killed Frances Ivey, Elizabeth Shumate, and Joanne Brown.

HOUSTON — Houston Police homicide investigators are looking to crack a cold case murder investigation dating back to 1983. The murders of Frances Ivey and two others took place inside a real estate office on Aug. 19, 1983.

Investigators said the killers came into the real estate office in the 16000 block of Memorial Drive at about 5:30 p.m., and robbed Elizabeth Shumate, Joanne Brown, Ivey, before shooting all three women.

The three women were later found in the lobby by a temporary office employee, according to a KPRC report.

Shumate and Brown were both dead, but Ivey was still alive. She was rushed to an area hospital but died of her injuries.

Police have had very little to go on since the murders. All they know is that the killers stole the women’s jewelry before shooting all three of them.

Crime Stoppers and the Houston Police Department’s Cold Case Homicide Unit need the public's assistance identifying the suspects responsible for Capital Murder and are offering a $5,000 reward.
