1. The Lone Star College System (LSCS) is anticipating completing its redistricting process on time, with a final map approval expected to be adopted June 29. Mike Sullivan, LSCS board of trustees member, provided a redistricting update during a May 5 board meeting and said there has been little community input during forums. (Community Impact Newspaper)
2. A man accused of shooting a Houston police officer during a traffic stop in southeast Houston Wednesday morning has been identified, according to the Houston Police Department. The suspect, 23-year-old Jimmy Bryan, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a public servant. (Click2Houston)
3. Fuku, the concept developed by celebrity chef David Chang, recently returned to Houston at Kitchen United MIX, the ghost kitchen facility inside the Kroger at 1035 N. Shepherd Dr. The concept initially had a poor reception. (CultureMap Houston)
4. Tenants at an apartment complex in southwest Houston are scrambling to find a roof over their heads, after many of them woke up to eviction notices, and are left with nowhere to go. Residents told local news ABC13 that their rent was paid on time and they are unsure of why they are being forced out. Records indicate Madison Apartments LLC is the property owner since January 2022. The previous owner was Ariafa LLC. (ABC 13)
5. Harris Co. Judge Lina Hidalgo announced a new $4 million initiative called The Youth Reinvestment Fund targeting violent crime with counseling and social support, such as job training, instead of police and the justice system. The investment comes as Harris County Prosecutors and law enforcement agencies have accused county leaders of "de-funding police. " (Fox 26 Houston)
