Free Skin Cancer Screening Program At Discovery Green This Week
Free skin cancer screenings will take place at Discovery Green on June 5-6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

HOUSTON — The summer sun can be brutal and most experts agree that sunscreen can not only help reduce the chances of getting sunburned but may reduce the chances of skin cancer.
June is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and The Skin Cancer Foundation will have a team of dermatologists on hand in the Destination: Healthy Skin RV at Discovery Green on June 5-6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days for free skin cancer screenings.
Through the Destination: Healthy Skin program, The Skin Cancer Foundation seeks to save lives by educating the public about effective sun protection for skin cancer prevention as well as the importance of early detection.

When skin cancers are found and removed early, they are almost always curable. That is why The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that everyone visit a dermatologist annually for a professional skin exam, in addition to practicing monthly head-to-toe self-exams, looking for any new or changing lesions that might be cancerous or precancerous.
Inside the RV, local dermatologists provide free full-body skin cancer screenings, which are first come, first served.

At each event, Walgreens specially trained beauty consultants and pharmacists will be on hand to distribute sunburn alert stickers, educate visitors on the importance of sun protection, provide recommendations for sun care and sunburn treatments and educate patients on medication that can cause photosensitivity.
Walgreens staff will be on hand to operate a Canfield Reveal Imager – a portable skin analysis imaging system that visualizes UV damage. Participants will also receive educational materials and Shiseido brand Clear Stick UV Protector SPF 50+
