1. A disabled mother and her two children died early Wednesday when their west Houston apartment building was destroyed by a massive fire, HFD said. The call came in around 4 a.m. from the 12700 block of Whittington Drive near Dairy Ashford that a three-story building was on fire. Flames could be seen for miles. (KHOU 11)

2. Port of Houston's planned $1 billion expansion aims to widen and deepen the Houston Ship Channel to allow for safer and more efficient vessel navigation by allowing two-way traffic to flow by 2025, according to Congressman Al Green. "This improved navigability for ships will also result in reduced emissions, leading to better air quality for the Greater Houston area," he added. (Click2Houston)

3. Lawyers for Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's indicted Chief of Staff Alex Triantaphyllis want District Attorney Kim Ogg removed from the criminal case. Triantaphyllis' attorneys claim Ogg acted after county commissioners didn't meet the DA's funding requests to "vastly expand the District Attorney's budget." (ABC 13)

4. The Houston Texans are donating $400,000 to the Robb School Memorial Fund to help those impacted by the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the team announced Wednesday. A total of 21 people — 19 students and two teachers —were killed when a gunman entered the school on May 24. (Fox 26 Houston)

5. Gatlin's BBQ owner, Greg Gatlin, will open Gatlin's Fins & Feathers in Independence Heights next month. The restaurant will be located in a former Mexican restaurant at 302 West Crosstimbers Street. (CultureMap Houston)
