Here are the top five stories in Houston today:

1. Houston City Council approved a $5.7 billion budget for fiscal year 2022-2023 during its June 1 meeting. Council Members Mike Knox and Michael Kubosh were the only members to vote against the budget. (Community Impact News)

2. A murder suspect, who barricaded himself inside an apartment after a man was fatally shot, is now in custody, Houston police said. Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex located in the 9300 block of Country Creek Dr. around 12:22 a.m. Thursday. (Click2Houston)

3. Just a week after at least two lockdowns took place at Houston-area school campuses, another Houston ISD school was forced to take similar measures Thursday morning. Reports of a verbal threat happened at Frank Black Middle School in the 1500 block of Chantilly Lane. (ABC 13)

4. One person was shot to death Thursday morning in what authorities said may have been a road rage incident on Beltway 8 in northwest Harris County. The incident happened near Tomball Parkway and Hollister. (KHOU 11)

5. Dallas-based pizzeria Zalat Pizza will open its fourth Houston-area location on Washington Avenue, a busy nightlife area. The new location will open at 4802 Washington Ave. on Tuesday, June 7. (CultureMap Houston)

  • Harris County Deputies are searching for the suspect who shot a man to death in what officials believe was a drug-related incident on Wednesday evening. (Fox 26)
  • Roshunda Jones-Koumba, the Houston theater director at G.W. Carver Magnet High School will receive the 2022 Excellence in Theatre Education Award on June 12. (KHOU 11)
  • The Missouri City Branch Library has reopened after a closure due to repairs to its heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. (Community Impact News)
