Houston Resident To Be Deported From Vietnam
William Nguyen, 32, was jailed during a protest in Ho Chi Minh City in June and is now being sent home

HOUSTON, TX – A Houston native who was arrested in Vietnam last month, will be deported immediately, according to media reports. The move comes after politicians, including Sen. Ted Cruz, called for his release.
William Nguyen was arrested June 10 in Ho Chi Minh City after taking part in a rare public protest in the communist country, according to reports. Nguyen, 32, was vacationing in the former capital of South Vietnam when he took part in the protest.
Nguyen apparently climbed onto a police pickup and was encouraging other protesters when he was pulled off the vehicle and beaten by police, according to the Houston Chronicle. He subsequently was charged and found guilty of disturbing public order.
